Head of Year 9 (ID 1326)

Head of Year - Ms Osifeso - dosifeso@orioncoopers.org.uk

Assistant Headteacher - Mr Hughes - jack.hughes@orioncoopers.org.uk

SENDCO - Mr Grant - dwgrant@orioncoopers.org.uk

It has been an absolute pleasure to be the Head of Year 9 at Orion Coopers School. With a lengthy background in education within administration, it was an easy and smooth transition into pastoral support. I have had the opportunity to build great relationships with my Year 9 pupils so far and I can only expect this to grow as they continue on their educational journey.

Enrichment

At Orion Coopers our vision for enrichment is to empower every student to discover their passions, unlock their potential, and grow into confident, curious, and compassionate lifelong learners through engaging, diverse, and meaningful experiences beyond the classroom.

At Orion Coopers we believe that education extends far beyond the classroom. Our School Enrichment Programme is designed to complement the academic curriculum by offering a broad range of opportunities that foster personal growth, creativity, leadership, and life skills. The programme aims to engage students of all interests and abilities, supporting their development into well-rounded individuals prepared for future success.

Purpose

The core purpose of the Enrichment Programme is to inspire a love of learning, promote curiosity, and encourage students to explore new interests outside the constraints of traditional academic subjects.

Structure and Delivery

The Enrichment Programme runs throughout the academic year, with structured sessions scheduled weekly, typically during lunch breaks, after school, or during dedicated enrichment afternoons. Activities are led by a mix of school staff, external professionals, and community volunteers, ensuring high-quality and varied offerings.

Students are encouraged to choose from a diverse menu of activities each term, allowing them to explore new interests or deepen existing ones. Participation is voluntary but highly encouraged.

Core Areas of Enrichment

The programme is divided into key focus areas to ensure a broad and balanced offering:

  1. Creative and Performing Arts
    • Drama and theatre workshops
    • School choir and music ensembles
    • Art and photography clubs
    • Dance and movement sessions
  2. STEM and Academic Extension
    • Coding and robotics
    • Science experiments and challenges
    • Maths enrichment and puzzle clubs
    • Creative writing and journalism
  3. Health and Wellbeing
    • Sports clubs (e.g., football, netball, yoga)
    • Outdoor adventure and Duke of Edinburgh Award (where applicable)
  4. Leadership and Personal Development
    • Student council and peer mentoring
    • Volunteering and charity projects
  5. Cultural and Global Awareness
    • Language and cultural clubs
    • Environmental and sustainability projects
    • Celebration of heritage days and global festivals

Impact and Outcomes

The Enrichment Programme plays a critical role in improving student engagement, motivation, and wellbeing. It enhances skills such as teamwork, problem-solving, and communication, and helps prepare students for life beyond school. Participation often leads to increased self-esteem, improved academic performance, and stronger social bonds among peers.

Our Enrichment Programme reflects our commitment to holistic education. By nurturing each student’s passions and potential beyond the classroom, we aim to develop lifelong learners and active, compassionate citizens. Through a wide variety of high-quality enrichment opportunities, we empower students to thrive both in school and in the wider world.
